I imagine this is available due to it being on the university grounds, though it does not say that you have to be a student to apply. What I found impressive were the opportunity to earn a paid residency which I have never in my young life have seen advertised before. They do allow people to walk the grounds during their off hours they ask that you make a donation and make sure to close the gate to keep the deer out. If you are a photographer like me I would say the best time to arrive is right before they open at 10 am or after 4 pm unless your goal is to have action in your pictures. Depending on what programs are available you could be listening to stories, playing one of their bog hunts, or participating in a members only evening event to watch a theater production of The Secret Garden. The energy of this place will not allow you to stay put for too long. Within this small space there are about 10 plus garden themes, the main cottage house resting quietly in the center, inviting you in for some sorely needed rest and a drink if you have not brought your own. It’s certainly inspiring to know that a community rallied around Sandy’s vision and eagerly looked forward to my visit. In 2008 they broke ground and by 2010 they were able to open to the public. From 1999 – 2008 the work to raise funds were conducted by presenting Sandy’s dream to anyone that would listen book cubs, church organizations, corporations. The story of Bookworm Gardens starts with one woman, Sandy Livermore and her idea to bring children’s stories to life. Disneyland could not touch Bookworm Gardens in comparison. In the handful of years I’ve been on this planet, there are very few places that will set my imagination on fire.
